  • A strong upper vortex forecast to form in the northeastern Atlantic Ocean is forecast to trigger a vigorous surface cyclone which may acquire tropical characteristics. Regardless of acquisition of tropical characteristics or not, the surface cyclone has a high chance of bringing gusty and potentially damaging winds to Madeira Island for a long period of time starting Saturday. Coastal sea swells are likely for Madeira Island, the remainder of the Canary Islands, and Portugal during this timeframe as well.
